Characteristics

The bun is fluffy and pale; filling contrasts rich fatty pork with crunchy peanut powder and fresh herbs. It is eaten like a sandwich.

History and culture

Gua bao is a street-food and night-market icon of Taiwan Food and has become popular in global Taiwanese restaurants. It is distinct from fully enclosed Baozi and from Char Siu Bao.
