Portuguese Chicken (Simplified Chinese: 葡国鸡; Traditional Chinese: 葡國雞; Pinyin: Púguó jī; Portuguese: Galinha à portuguesa) is a Macanese casserole of chicken baked with a mild coconut and curry-spiced sauce and often potato or rice—not the same dish as African Chicken (Galinha à Africana), which uses a different spicy paprika-forward profile.

Characteristics

Creamy yellow-orange sauce, gently spiced; comfort-casserole texture. Milder and coconut-forward compared with African Chicken.

Ingredients (overview)

Chicken, coconut milk or evaporated milk, curry powder, onion, potato or egg, baked until bubbling. Restaurant recipes vary.

History and culture

Macanese Portuguese-Asian fusion on Macau Food, listed with African Chicken, Minchi, Pork Chop Bun, and Egg Tart. Keep pages separate: Portuguese ≠ African chicken.

Serving and variations
