Anhui Tea and Drinks
Anhui tea and drinks include celebrated teas from different mountain areas as well as sweet local beverages and fermented-rice desserts. The province's tea names identify growing places and processing traditions; they are not all products of one tea company.[1][2][3]
Teas of southern and western Anhui
Huangshan Maofeng (黄山毛峰), Qimen black tea (祁门红茶) and Taiping Houkui (太平猴魁) are associated with different parts of Huangshan. Their leaf shape, oxidation and processing distinguish the teas. National intangible heritage records include traditional processing methods for Anhui teas.[1][2]
In western Anhui, Lu'an Guapian (六安瓜片) and Huoshan Huangya (霍山黄芽) broaden the tea map into the Dabie Mountains. Lu'an's tea culture is also connected to local food and hospitality.[3][4]
Local drinks and tea culture
Wuhu's red-bean fermented-rice dessert (赤豆酒酿) may be served as a sweet drink or spoonable snack. Local food guides also record chrysanthemum drinks and contemporary tea drinks in other Anhui cities. These items change with shops and seasons, so city-specific guides are more useful than treating them as one traditional provincial beverage.[5][4]
