Introduction

Mushrooms In Oyster Sauce (Simplified Chinese: 蚝油蘑菇; Traditional Chinese: 蠔油蘑菇; Pinyin: Hào yóu mógū;), it is a famous Cantonese dish. All-white button mushrooms (optional choices are: dried Chinese black mushrooms or Cremini mushrooms) and green pepper are the main ingredients, but if you are not a vegetarian, you can also add chicken or pork in this dish. Savory vegetarian oyster sauce enhances the umami flavor of the mushrooms. The dish has a bit golden or caramel and is very suitable to go with rice!

Ingredients

Use any kind of mushrooms you like, but in China, cooks usually choose all-white button mushrooms or dried black mushrooms to make this dish. The ingredients below are to serve 2 persons.

Mushrooms 2 lbs
Ginger 2 slices
Sliced Garlic 2 stalks
Red and Green Peppers 6 pieces
Oyster Sauce 2 tablespoons
sesame oil 1 teaspoon

Directions

If needed, soak the mushrooms in warm water for 15 minutes, reserving the liquid. If the mushrooms are large, cut into quarters

Over medium high heat, saute garlic and ginger until fragrant

Add mushrooms and stir-fry for 1 minute

Add oyster sauce, dark soy sauce, sugar and chicken broth, stirring to combine

Once the sauce starts bubbling, pour in cornstarch mixture

When the sauce has thickened, remove from heat and drizzle with sesame oil

Dish and serve hot
